These decisions are generally made by the body or the service comittee. Seldom does an elder have autonomy. I doubt he was alone on the decision. I won't dispute he was an ass hat. Considering that those appointed often see through the BS its probably too bad more aren't appointed so they can wake up.

How to Knock Nazi Elders off their high horse
by suavojr inthe borg has many inconsistencies, when the topic is helping humble and honest people achieve their full potential.
consider a working man who works 40 to 60 hours a week and still manages to show up to all the meetings, participate, do all of his assigned work within the kh, but his ministry has slipped to 8 hours per month.
this same man is working hard to move up within the ranks only to get shut down without even knowing.. .

What the recent court cases prove about the Governing Body
by JimmyPage infor years we have debated on this board about whether or not the governing body are truly wicked or just clueless.
these recent court cases have hammered home their true nature.
they are willfully evil, deliberately and recklessly endangering the lives of tiny innocent children.

When you are a brother of Christ, its even closer to the big guy than the Vicar of Christ. They are family. Don't mess with Jesus' family. Trust me, this is how they think.

A Vote That Was Widely Ignored
by metatron inhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/11/05/california-prisons_n_6070654.html.
if i learned anything from my witness experience, it is that, in balance, there can be too much of an obsession to punish, punish, punish.. while the media wastes time over tweedeldee vs tweedeldum elections, the issues of real improvement and liberty get ignored.
given the eclectic backing of this measure, it suggests to me that it will go nationwide and that's good.. there is hope amidst the partisan nonsense.. .

I was surprised it passed. The major concerns were Roofies and stolen guns. Maybe the gun thieves will overdose on Roofies? We can hope.

Why don't parents of an abused child go straight to police, why go to an elder first??
by FeelingFree ini hope i don't come across as judgemental but having read a lot on the current child abuse cases and the different threads on here, i am left wondering why on earth a parent of an abuse victim would go to an elder with the problem first and not straight to police?.
as a parent myself i know that if anything like that happend to my child (this applies to when i was still an active jw as well as now) i would not hesitate in going to the authorities as soon as i found out, it wouldn't of crossed mine or my husbands mind to go to an elder.
maybe after we had reported it but definitely never as the first port of call.

When you give authority over your life to others its not easy to take it back. Submit yourself to those taking the lead, right? So we did. So we suffered. So they get sued. Keep up the lawsuits you guys!

He Got Reinstated . . .
by Hamahead infeeling low today.
i haven't posted for a long time (forgotten log in details = new username) i'm in a good place with my family now and have built a life outside the religion.. today i found out a good friend has gone back and got himself reinstated to be able to have contact with his elderly mother.
that is the only reason apparently.

You wish you could have contact with your relatives but can't because you dont choose to jump through the hoops to make it possible, and they are all slaves to the wrong ideals. You're friend found a way to reconcile his need to have family with his own choice of playing their games. That's his choice, its not a rejection of your thinking. Now if he shuns you, then you haven't lost anything really. Its his loss but then again I would take family over friends any day if it were a choice I was given. Perhaps he thinks he can do them some goog by being in proximity. Dont be so sensitive, its not worth it.

More pyramid nonsense
by FadeToBlack injoseph t. "judge" rutherford, a leader of the early jehovah's witness movement, was determined to put an end to the "christian pyramidology" espoused by his predecessor, charles taze russell.. rutherford wrote a two-part articleappearing in the november 15 and december 1, 1928 editions of the watch towertitled, "the altar in egypt," wherein he declared:.
it is certain that the pyramid of gizeh was not built by jehovah god; nor was it built at his command.
it is more reasonable to conclude that the great pyramid of gizeh, as well as the other pyramids thereabout, also the sphinx, were built by the rulers of egypt and under the direction of satan the devil.

Should we then ascribe to Satan the new light doctrine? It always starts out false and gets made accurate. How like the Satan that Joe knew!

Awake! to be part of Watchtower Public Edition!
by Atlantis inthis was posted on a jw site and it would be nice if we could verify.. .. .. as of february 2015, the awake!
will come as a part of the watchtower public edition instead of as a separate magazine.
this is a huge change... with serious cost savings.

The translation seems to indicate that this is a shipping matter not a publishing matter. The two small mags will be sent together to the congregations instead of two seperate bundles. It refers to this arrangement already underway in the US. We know we do not have two mags in one issue in the US. It must be referring to how the public edition and the monthly Awake are delivered to the congregations. Someone translate this for us. Thanks.

I Was Asked To Perform A Marriage Ceremony But Don't Know I'm Qualified
by minimus inmy girlfriend's daughter and her fiancee asked me to marry them last night.
they live in connecticut and will be married in new york.
i felt honored that i was asked but i don't think i can do it because i am not a clergyman or minister and my u derstanding is that only clergy or judges and lawyers and justice of the peace can perform a wedding ceremony and marry a couple.. does anyone have any information on this subject?
-

Yeah Google!
Who can perform marriages in Connecticut?
This is an extremely important topic. Please confirm with your wedding officiant that they are legally authorized to join people in marriage in Connecticut. Authorized officiants include
- Justices of the Peace;
- Judges and retired judges;
- Family support magistrates;
- Ordained or licensed clergy who have an active ministry in addition to performing marriages;
- State referees.
If there is any doubt about your officiant being properly authorized, please consult the Town Clerk where the officiant resides. There is a Suggested Criteria Page for helping you choose an officiant. Alternative wedding officiants, such as Justices of the Peace, usually offer you the most options of all wedding officiants and have the fewest rules that you must follow.
